strange coding in documents that disables spell check

For some reason, my spell check no longer works from time to time due to some
sort of code that is landing in my documents.  I have done everything from
system restore to studying this board and taking the advice given, setting
the language, etc., I have reloaded Microsoft Office, nothing works.  On
certain pages I get a message that a) the help feature is not installed
(which it is); b) msr.dll or some .dll file cannot be found so the speller
isn't working.  On other pages, it works fine.  This is in the document
because when I take it to another computer, the same thing happens.  I
forwarded a job to the person I was doing it for, and she had to cut and
paste my document into another to get the spell check to run.  How can I get
rid of this coding?

It's likely somewhere in one or more of the styles... anyway, perhaps you've
just missed something. Maybe my article will help?

Anne, thanks for an excellent article.  I had done those things but I did
them again - no luck.  Next I think I will tackle your article on "Normal"
and see if that helps.  It's very odd - on some pages, it's fine; on others,
it doesn't work, and though I have "Help," the computer will say it's not
loaded and would I like to load it.  Going nuts.  Thanks.

Anne, very kind of you to ask.  Last night I finally had time and I read your
article about Normal.dot and I renamed it.  I did some testing and it seemed
okay, but now I'll have to wait to get a new job before I can tell - and I'm
on vacation next week.  When I know, I promise to come back and tell you.  I
think it was something in Normal because absolutely nothing else worked, and
what you wrote was true also - if you reinstall Word, ibecause of the
Normal.dot , it won't help.  And it didn't.  So we'll see if this works.
Thanks.

Anne, your article seems to have done the trick!  Thank you so much for all
your help.

The spellcheck is fine, but a couple of odd things are still occurring.
Since this all happened with the disabling of the spellcheck, I can no longer
do "Control - page up" -I get a message that says help isn't available or
something.  And - stranger yet - I can no longer delete like I used to.  Now
I get a "delete this? y/n" rather than just hitting delete and having a word
or phrase deleted.

Odd.  But your normal.dot info really did help.  Thanks again.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | General tab | uncheck the two boxes
for WordPerfect help and navigation | OK.
