I have been using Word 2007 for some time, and I like it. However, I am
having trouble with a particular manuscript and spelling. Spell checker works
with the first 20 pages or so, then doesn't recognize any misspellings, then
in a later section works again. This is the case for both a spell check and
the real time spell checker. I sent the docx to an IT person and he had the
same issue with his computer.
I have tried all of the suggested fixes, except the change in regedit. All
of the options are correctly selected, as is my primary language. I have used
save as. I have copied sections into a separate docx and the same thing
happens. It is as though there is a code in the docx which says "don't spell
check this section". Some of the material in the MS are original in 2007 and
some are copied and pasted from 2003 documents and this seems unrelated to
the sections that get spell checked or not.
There is no discernable way to tell if a section will get spell checked, or
will not. I have tried everything.

Just to confirm, one of the "suggested fixes" was to select the whole
document (Ctrl+A), Language, Set Language, clear the "Do not check spelling
and grammar" box?
What you describe nearly always point to this box being checked for the text
that is not being checked.

My spell checker will not check anything, even when I blatantly mis-spell
something.
I have checked that this box you speak of is unchecked and it is.
Any ideas?

I've found a fix that'll work - you need to delete your whole reg. key for
word - go to <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822005/en-us> for instructions.

I just did what you suggested, deleted the reg.key and IT WORKED!!! I was
scared to death since I don't know a lot about this stuff, but thanks. I can
spell pretty good but it's always nice to know spell checker has your back.
