I've installed ... and reinstalled ... and reinstalled Office 2007 Prof.
Plus, run Microsoft Update several times and been told I have everything
(including the Language Pack and Update), and still don't have any Spell
Check capabilities.  Instead, I get the message "Cannot find Proofing Tools
..."  Can anyone help?

Doug's solution didn't help:  The specific registry key referred to doesn't
appear at all in my registry.  It looks as though Proofing Tools isn't even
installed.  Other ideas?

I am not sure I can offer a fool proof solution, but first, it might
help to know if you are using Vista or XP.

In your situation, I would uninstall Office 2007 and run a registry
cleaner. Personally, I recommend Powertools's cleaner, which I found to
be one of the safest.

If this still does take care of your problem:

Do you have an older version of Office installed on your machine? If
yes, I would reinstall/repair it, and then try to upgrade it to Word 2007.

If no, and none is available to you, after cleaning the registry, boot
into safe mode and try installing Word 2007. I am not sure this is
possible but if it is, see if it takes care of your problem. Or if safe
mode install does not work, make sure to disable all programs which are
not absolutely necessary to your machine before installing and clean
your temporary files.

One more point: disable your antivirus when installing.

Lastly, where did you get your version of Word 2007? Could it be
damaged, or incomplete?

I hope that among those suggestions, one will work for you.

Hi,

It is hard to tell the problem from here.  Do you have the problem that
English speller does not work in any applications?  If yes, please try this:

1. Start > Run > Regedit
2. Delete or rename HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared
Tools\Proofing Tools\1.0  (don't worry, it will get created when you run
spell check)

Note: This registry key sometimes corrupts when you upgrade.

If you have a problem with a specific application such as Word, try this
1. Launch Word
2. Word Options > Add  -Ins
3. Select Disabled Items in Manage Box > Go

If there is a spell file (something like nlsdata0009.dll) display there, you
need to enable it.  Then, your speller should work now.  Hope this would help.

This is what I found on the Mircosoft site:

"The Office Proofing Tools Kit 2007 is only available as part of the
Microsoft Office Multilanguage Pack 2007. The Office Multilanguage Pack 2007
contains all of the single language packs for the 2007 Office release, in
addition to the Office Proofing Tools Kit 2007. The Office Multilanguage Pack
2007 is available for purchase in major retail stores and their Web sites, as
well as through Microsoft volume licensing programs. With the Office
Multilanguage Pack 2007, Proofing Tools are distributed as a separate
product."
