Hi!
I am trying to create and execute an exclude dictionary
in Word XP.  I have followed all the steps and it will
not work.  Does anyone know how to do this?  I also have
Steadman's Medical Spellchecker installed to work with
the Word spellcheck and it works fine.  Please help if
you can!!

Thanks!

See if the instructions at
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/General/ExcludeWordFromDic.htm are more
helpful.

Hello all

I'm having a problem getting my
EXCLUDE dictionary to work
(Word-2000, Win2k).

I've looked at the knowledge base article
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/General/ExcludeWordFromDic.htm

I'm pretty sure the file is OK - text - and suffix .EXC;
it has about 200 entries, 3KB.

The article's description of the Office-2000 registry keys
doesn't quite match my registry.

?HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE?,
?Software?,
?Microsoft?,
?Windows?,
?CurrentVersion?,
?Installer?

So far so good -
but then "Components" is not immediately available;
first come
"User Data"
"5-1-5-18"
then comes "Components"
?D3BE92CC2CB71D119A12000A9CE1A22A?.

I then find the directory containing MSSP3EN.lex,
(in my case D:\PRG\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof).
And this is where I have my MSSP3EN.exc.

I also have the same file in the directory containing my RAY-US.DIC
(my custom dictionary), as specified via Tools - Options - File locations,
namely E:\RAY\WordProof.

I'm stumped !
Thanks in advance for any hints !

Best regards,
Ray

The instructions about "Locate the folder to save the exclude dictionary in.
This should be the same location as the main dictionary" is wrong. Your
exclude dictionary has to be in the folder where Word saves your custom.dic
file, by default. In my case it's "C:\Documents and Settings\My
Name\Application Data\Microsoft\Proof". Put the exclude file there, naming
it the way Word tells you to (in my case "MSSP3EN.EXC" exit Word and start
it up again. The exclude dictionary should now work as advertised.

(Thanks to Cindy for figuring this one out.)
