How can I fix Word so it doesn't look for the french dictionary when
checking spelling?

I get a message when spell checking which reads as follows:

"Word cannot find the grammar file msgrFR32.dll for French (France)."

I don't know where this came from because I'm in the US and never
changed to use french dictionary.  Any ideals on how to fix and possibly
occurred?  TIA!

There are two possibilities:
1. the document text was already labelled as French when you received it,
either because it is French or because it was typed with the French keyboard
language settings
2. You have language detection turned on in Tools > Language > Set Language
dialog. It is known to misfire, particularly in Word 2000.

To change the language that text is tagged in, it must be first selected and
then you use the Set Language dialog to re-specify the language.

If something doesn't make sense, it could be worse e.g.
