Is there a way to exclude specific styles from being spell checked?
For example, my documents often contain large amounts of data dumps,
which end up being a mess of green and red after the spell/grammar
checker has done with them. I'd like the SC to check my spelling as I
type but to avoid anything that is formatted as data.

Do you format these dumps in some way? I have a style format for
computer code in Word, which style uses a different (monospaced) font.
If you do use such a style, you could set it to "Do not check spelling
or grammar". (Use the Format | Style menu item, chose your style, click
the Modify button, and in the resulting dlg click the Format button,
then choose Language. Then check the "Do not check spelling or grammr"
checkbox.)

Yes modify the formatting of the style. Specifically, change the language
setting to "no proofing" or "do not check spelling and grammar."
