Reduce file size?

I am using Word 2000. I have a document that is about 7 mb in size. It has
many photographs in it. This document was orginally created years ago and has
been edited several times. I believe the photos were copied/pasted into the
doc and I do not have access to the original photos. Is there any way to make
this document smaller???

You could either save as an HTML file (which will export all the pictures to an
outside folder and link them in), or copy/paste the pictures to a graphics
program, save them there, and then link them back into the document.

Note that there is a difference between just linking them into a document, and
linking AND inserting them into the document. In the one case, the document
stores only the link, resulting in the smaller file size. In the other, the file
size is not affected because all the picture information is stored in the
document and the link is only there in order to update the picture info.

The link-only state is maintained by the \d switch in the IncludePicture field
(you can see fields by pressing Alt+F9). Saving as HTML might not result in that
state; in this case you'd have to manually edit the links.
