Coloring in a document

I have downloaded a outline of U.S. map.  I need to color in the states using
different colors.

I don't think you'll be easily able to do this in Word, though you could try
selecting the drawing and seeing if the Ungroup command is available. This
is really a task that should be performed in a graphics application,
however.

Mary Sauer has a version that you can import, unzip, ungroup and then colour.
