I can select a portion of an image and delete it, not crop it on a Mac .  How
can I perform that task in Windows XP?  Thanx for any help, suggestions.  Is
it do-able in Publisher, but not Word?

Sorry, but that's one feature of Mac Word that Win Word doesn't have.
Depending on the type of image (WMF or EMF) you can right-click & choose
Edit Picture, but it still doesn't give you the tools for the type of image
editing you're looking for.

That's what I figured, but not what I hoped.  Thank you for your response.

A crude way is to create a shape with the Autoshapes/line/curve tool and sit
over the picture. Set the pictures text wrapping to behind and set the shapes
line to no line. Group the picture and the shape to lock them together
