The closest you may be able to come is to use Insert=>Picture from file to add your picture from Word and then from the Picture
Toolbar (View=>Toolbars), with the picture selected in your document use the 'transparency tool' from the picture toolbar and click
on the color in the picture you want removed.

You may want to set a transparent color in your graphics program instead and save the graphic in a format that supports transparent
colors (GIF, PNG) before using the picture in Word.

I have scanned a picture and removed the part I want in my photo editing
program, I want to load it in to a Word document to create a front page for a
book I'm writing however, when I insert the picture it comes in with a white
background - how do I remove this background? In Quark express if you load in
an image you can click into the picture box and select an option called
CLIPPING and REMOVE NON WHITE AREAS and this gets rid of the background. Is
there a similar option for Word?
