I am a math teacher and need to draw figures.  I need to be able to draw a
line and place points on the line.  Also I would like to just draw a point
(the circle tool makes too big a dot).  I am using Word 2007.

Assuming  "insert symbol " is available in 2007 look for the large dot char
2022 and put it into a text box that has 'no fill' and 'no line'. You can set
the font size to get the dot size you want

Sounds like you're drawing a line chart. If so, why not just use Insert>
Picture> Chart & use real or dummy data. It'll save lots of grief &
aggravation - not to mention *time* :-)
