As you're using Office 2007, if you're doing this in tables you may want to consider using Excel 2007 for this, either for the
report or link the table data into MS Word.  In Excel if you use the Home Tab's, Conditional formatting=>Icon sets applied to your
data rules you'll get the red/yellow/green dashboard indicators and the state will be set based on the data.

In Word 2007 one way to get the '3d look' is by using Insert=>Shape and choosing an oval.  Hold the ctrl key down while drawing it
to get a circle, then, if the 'button' you just created not already selected double click it and apply a shape style to get the
effect you want.

If you want 'straight' red yellow green color set you can use either the 'Office 2003' color theme from the Page Layout tab, or
after getting the 'effect' you want use the Shape Styles, Shape Fill choice to change the color while keeping the effect.

With the shape selected using Ctrl+D will duplicate it for you so you'll have other buttons.

Thanks Bob. My apologies, I am using Office 2007. These circles will reside
in a table for a matrixed status report. Each box will contain a circle and
the color (red yellow or green) will indciate the status. Currently, I am
using "Wingdings" and trying to give depth to a circle symbol in there using
gradient fills, but not having much luck getting the customization I need. >>
