When a graphic is inserted, Word automatically chooses to insert it as In
Line With Text...I would rather have it as a Tight text wrapping style by
default. How do I make this change the default manner in which graphics are
inserted?

Tools | Options | Edit and change the default wrapping style.

Sorry, but I do not see any mention of text wrapping options, let alone how
to change the default. Any further suggestions?

You don't see a selection for "Insert/paste pictures as"?

No, I am sorry, I do not. This is a home computer...I am not on a network
where administrative sevels would be an issue either. We run XP and Office
2003.

You are looking at the Edit tab of Tools | Options and you do not see an
option to "Insert/paste pictures as"? You should have this in *any* edition
of Word 2003. It's at the bottom of the "Editing options," right above "Cut
and paste options," and has a dropdown list box in which you choose the
default wrapping.

Suzanne,
In Tools > Options > Edit tab I have a section for Editing options offering
the following choices: Typing replaces selection, Drag-and-drop text editing,
Use the INS key for paste, Overtype mode, Use smart cut and paste, Tabs and
backspace set left indent, Allow accented uppercase in French, When
selecting, automatically select entire word.
I have a drop down box for Picture editor with the choices of Microsoft Word
or Microsoft Draw 98 Drawing.
The final section in the Edit tab window is labeled Click and type. There is
only one item in this section and it is labeled Enable click and type. There
is a drop down box in this section for Default paragraph sytle and it is set
to Normal (the other choices being  Header or Footer)
Unfortunately, those are the ONLY things appearing in the Edit tab.
Do I need to reinstall Word?

Are you sure you have Word 2003? What version is shown in Help | About
Microsoft Word?

I apologize...my home comuter is only 2000, not Word 2003. Is this default
change still possible in 2000?

No, this option is not available in Word 2000. But note that the subject
line says Word 2003, and I have mentioned Word 2003 specifically at least
once.

Ah, please forgive an old dog trying to learn new tricks...like the old
proverb says: Don't complain about the coffee--you too may be old and weak
someday.
Thanks for attempting to help,
Smiles.

Hi G.A.,

For Word 2000 you can use a macro to have the equivalent of the built in setting that is in newer Word versions as described here,
in method 2:

Bob, you are knowledgeable and kind! I thank you for your macro suggestion.
It is just what I was hoping for.
With appreciation,
G.A.
