Hi,

I've a Word doc stored in My Documents in the network/DFS (i.e. user profile
incl. My Documents is \\ourlan\dfs\users\...), the pictures are in a
subdirectory in My Documents, and were added to the doc with "Link to file"
(instead if "Link and file"). Now I wanted to copy the word file and the
image folder to the harddisk, but the images refuse to work after this.

The control codes (or what they're called, after ALT-F9) look like below.
Exactly the same for original and for the copied word doc.

{ INCLUDEPICTURE "pvss-img/gedi%20-%20para%20-%20config%20insert%20menu.bmp"
\* MERGEFORMAT \d }

The folder in which the copied word doc is, contains the pvss-img subfolder,
and the image files are all there. But Word won't display them. I also tried
changing the %20 to spaces, didn't help. Then additionally the / to \, no
difference.

There's a larger image on a landscape formatted 50cm x 50cm page in the same
document. This picture is the only one which displays correctly, though
instead of actually showing the control code for it Word just shows the
picture (alt-f9 doesn't change this...)

Puzzled... There are a lot of images in the document, wouldn't want to
reinsert them all again.

Any good ideas?

many thanks,
- Jan

Hi Jan,

The one that displays does so because it is embedded, not linked.

In the example that you gave, is menu.bmp the filename, and in all of the
similar field codes, is the filename preceded by the same string

pvss-img/gedi%20-%20para%20-%20config%20insert%20

If that is the casem with the field codes toggled on, you can use
Edit>Replace to look for

pvss-img/gedi%20-%20para%20-%20config%20insert%20

and replace it with the drive\path to where the images are now located.

Please respond to the newsgroups for the benefit of others who may be
interested.

Hope this helps

Well yes that could be s a solution, but it's to the wrong problem - I'd
need the _relative_ paths.

And it did not work anyway, using the direct drive\path still shows outline
boxes with a small red cross, i.e. the image isn't found.

t.ex.
{ INCLUDEPICTURE "D:\Jan-pvss\PVSS tutoriaali tiedostot\pvss-img\datapoint
structure demo.tif" \* MERGEFORMAT \d }
didn't work. Word 2k probably stores the file infos elsewhere, not in the
displayed field codes.

Looks like I've to reinsert all pics... :(

thanks anyway,
cheers,
- jfw
