Help! I teach in China, and use a school computer, on
which Word and the entire platform is in Chinese! I can
do some things OK, but often get stumped on the simplest
tasks. Not only is everything in Chinese, but all the
icons are different, the toolbar buttons are in different
places, and the pull-down menus have unrecognizable
titles. I have been told that the platform cannot be
changed, because the computer (even the name of the PC is
in Chinese) is hooked up to the school's LAN. Can I get
some kind of translation, so I can use this thing?
Please someone help me! Thanks a bazillion!

There are multilanguage user interface packs for both Windows (2000 or XP )
and Office (2000 or later) but they require that they be applied to an
English installation, and require a volume license to purchase.
See for example:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/previous/xp/multilingual/default.asp and
http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/DrIntl/faqs/muifaq.mspx
For any further tips we'd have to know your Word and Windows version. You
might find it handy to simply order a simple (English) reference book for
Office and Windows to look up relative reference points.
