Japanese text direction

I loaded a Japanese text document into word and now it
seems that the default is for the text to flow from top to
bottom, right to left.

The text direction menu in tools is grayed out so I can't
use it.

Any way to get back to normal?

Details of Word and Windows versions will help. Do you have each of these
enabled for Japanese editing?
