Hello,

can anybody tell me which features concerning languages have been
improved in Office 2003 compared to Office 2002?
Are there any new language features added?

Regards,

Ernst

Still trying to find that myself - the FAQs for Office 2003
(http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/prodinfo/language/proofingtools.ms
px)  have less information than prior versions. There are a number of errors
in the published pages on microsoft.com that, so far, have only been partly
corrected. I think they're waiting for MVPs to do the work for them.....:-(.

The English thesaurus is the only old feature which I've noted has been
improved, but content-wise it's still a poor substitute for a paper volume.

Have you purchased the Office 2003 Proofing Tools CD? There are a number of
additions to features supported in each language. I could check the setup
screens for details as the feature matrix
http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/prodinfo/language/proofingtools-table1.mspx
doesn't even include some tools added in Office XP let alone new stuff.

If something doesn't make sense, it could be worse e.g.

Include details of your application and Windows versions, plus any
service pack updates. Answers may also be found by reading recent

The only things I've noticed have been the increased reliance on
Task Panes. The thesaurus now opens in a Task Pane, instead of the
dialog box format.

There are also links in this "research" Task Pane that can take you
to outside sources, generally.

Now there are options you can set for the translation feature about
which languages to allow (based on what's installed) and which
Internet services to use.

There's also a link to "Translate whole document" that takes you to
the Internet site "WorldLingo".

From Word help:

Microsoft Office Word 2003 provides improved features for creating
foreign-language documents and for using documents in a multiple
language setting.

Mail Merge chooses the correct greeting format based on the gender of
the recipient if the language requires it. Mail Merge can also format
addresses based on the geographical region of the recipient.

Enhancements to typography result in better display of text in more
languages than ever before. Word 2003 supports more Unicode ranges and
includes improved support for combining diacritics.
