What is the difference between Proofing Tools versions?

I had to upgrade from Office XP to Office 2003 (mainly because of high
ratings of Outlook's email filter). But the Proofing Tools, Version 2002
refused to install.

Does that mean I have to buy another copy? Come on, it's only a spell
checker, why should I pay every time when I upgrade to the next Office
version? The languages included in the Proofing Tools don't change at the
same rate Microsoft changes the Office...
Is there a way to avoid this injustice?

Actually, there have been significant changes to the architecture so that it
can work well with the research pane.

Your best bet is to
- start with a "clean" system (no Office installed)
- install Office XP
- install the Proofing tools
- install Office 2003 *over* Office XP (let it replace the Office apps)

Office 2003 should pick up the proofing tools from the earlier
installation. It won't provide all the functionality added in Word 2003,
but you should still have the basic spelling and grammar check, at the very
least.

(And that is why Office 2003 has new proofing tools: new functionalities,
especially the "Research" task pane.)

I followed the instructions above, and voila! Everything works, including
Research, Translations, etc. Translations generated by WorldLingo are funny
to say the least...
Buy the way, here's a good guide to Translation Buyers:
