I've been trying to figure out how I can create a document written in
Chinese. I keep seeing that it's possible but have yet to find complete and
simple directions to follow enable to make it work. If anyone can help me I
would greatly appreciate it.

Here's the system I'm working with

P4 at 3 GHz
1 GB of RAM
Windows 2000
Office Pro 2003

Thanks,
David Mu?oz

You should add Chinese language(s) and keyboard layout(s) (from Control
Panel-Keyboard).  Then change the language to Chinese and start typing.
After typing one or more letters, you will get a choice of words that match
the desired character.  W2K supports both Traditional and Simplified
Chinese.

I went to the control panel and then to regional setting and added in the
simplified Chinese region.
I also when to the keyboard settings and loaded up the Chinese settings.
In Word I have the language bar on and it's set to Chinese
In Word's settings it say it should be writing Chinese but it is still only
typing in English.

I figure that I must be doing something wrong.

Any ideas?

Make sure that you have the proper Chinese input method (keyboard layout).
There are several and, as far as  I know, only one works properly with
Western keyboards.

Actually, most of the CHS input methods are IMEs, and work quite fine with
the US keyboard.

Well thanks for the info but I still don't know how to get this to work. I'm
using the IME supplied with Windows 2000 Pro and wasn't required to install
anything from the Office 2003 CD so I'm assuming this is correct.

Is there another IME I'm supposed to be using? Is there a font that I need
to load that doesn't come with Win2k? If there is could someone tell me
where to get them, also if someone could give me an example of some Chinese
words so that I may type them in and see if they change to the correct
character. This way we are on the same page.

Thanks,
David Munoz

You should use Chinese as the language and keyboard layout: Chinese-NeiMa,
Chinese-QuanPin, or other.
Make sure that you switch to the desired language.  Enable the language
indicator; it must show a chinese character.
The Chinese input works without any additional fonts.

Do you want to know
how to install Chinese input methods in your computer or
do you mean it's already installed and you want to know
how to encode?

Which type of Chinese? Simplified or Traditional?
I think with Simplified, you have to know how to pronounce/read..
With the traditional input of Changjei method, you can encode the word even
if you can't pronounce or read it...but you need memorization and practice.

On how to encode...maybe this will be of some information?
