Hi Claus,
I'm afraid there is no way to customize this. German has a similar problem as
Danish, FWIW.
Klaus Linke once discovered that the kinds of quotes he wants are the default
for one of the Slavic languages. So, when he wants those quotes he does this:
- formats the text with that language (Slovenian, in this case)
- types the document with straight quotes
- goes into AutoFormat (NOT "as you type) and deactivates all the settings
except the one for Smart quotes
- Goes to Format/AutoFormat
- activates AutoFormat now, then clicks "OK"
Another approach is to type the text with Smart quotes on, then use Find/Replace
to replace them with other characters.

Sounds like it would be easy enough to make a macro -- type with smart
quotes on, then replace with the quote markings of your choice.
Unless, of course, you're using different quote styles in the same
document.

Hi <*((((><{
Sounds easy enough...
The only really hard part comes when you don't want to mess with the
AutoFormat options.
You'd have to remember them one by one, and reset them later. And each
version has different options.
I wanted to write a FAQ article, but those problems made me abandon it.
You also should be aware that AutoFormat only fixes the quotes in the main
text, not in footnotes or textboxes or comments.

Klaus

Hi Klaus,
I think I recall fiddling with this issue when I was doing some
work on Native American Indian languages using MS office, WP, and File
Maker Pro -- a few compatibility issues.
If you use the smart quotes to begin with, you'll get a left-curl
and a right-curl.
Using find/replace, you can select just the left-curl and replace
it with the symbol of your choice; same with the right curl.
I recall making a simple macro, which included replacing the
single quotes -single-left-curl and single-right-curl with the symbols
of my choice.
I had to run the macro on the document, then on the footnotes.
Didn't use text boxes -- that sounds like a first-class pain.
I did not use Auto Format. My impression of most of MS's "auto"
goodies is that they cause more trouble than they save.
Or -- send the document to me, and I'll format it for you the way you
like. For a reasonable fee, of course.
