We have a strange problem with a Word 2002 file. It is a table that is
fine--mostly. There are several places where words are not in the English
language, but in Arabic (Saudi Arabia). They display in English on the
screen, but when you try to use the left arrow, you move right. If you use
the right arrow, you move left. We have re-selected and changed the language.
We have modified the Normal style. We have created a new style. No luck
getting rid of the Arabic language and changing it back to English.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

This may actually be correct although some apps have done
it the other way and I personally would prefer to treat the
arrows as physical direction points.

What I believe it happening is that "left arrow" is really
"logical back arrow" and so in right-to-left languages, the
left arrow goes BACK by moving to the right.

There is an odd logic to it -- although I can readily understand
your frustration with it.

I did not explain myself sufficiently. We don't want the Arabic text. We
tried all sorts of things to turn it off.

But since I posted here I did find out about a macro in Word: ltrrun
(left-to-right run) which will remove the Arabic and change it back to
English. That has done the trick.

Now if I could just figure out how it got changed to Arabic in the first
place!

I am having the same problem with Tables of Content. Where did you find that
macro?

I got in touch with someone I found on the web and she pointed me in that
direction. In Word, in the Macros box, if you click on the "Macros in" box
and choose "Word commands" you will find all sorts of macros listed.

So you had the problems with Arabic in a TOC?
We have not been able to figure out HOW it happened in the first place, but
at least we could get ride of it. Did the ltrrun macro help you get rid of
it, too?
