The default font for typing some north Indian languages like Hindi is Mangal.
I have installed another font called Chandas. Periodically the system will
switch from Chandas back to Mangal in Word 2003 and always in Outlook 2003. I
am running XP Pro with all patches applied and fully-patched Office 2003. In
Word I have changed the normal.dot in Styles to the Chandas font for
non-Latin languages.

My question: is there a way to force the system to use Chandas as its
default Devanagari font?

Since this is a systems font issue too, should I post it instead in the
WinXP section?

The default font for each complex script is built-into the uniscribe
rendering engine (usp10.dll file). There is no way user can edit it.

Pavanaja, thank you (dhanyavaadaH!) for your speedy reply. That explains the
problem.
