MS MUI for German Spellcheck does not work anymore

I installed the Proof Languages (muisetup.exe) and they apparently were
installed without problems. No error messages.

But when I use MSOffice 2003 Pro and do a spellcheck for German, I first
highlight the text, then select languages under Tools, select German, then
go back to Tools and want to do the Spellcheck.

It shows all kind of languages. oodles of French, but no German. Spanish
yes, English yes, no German and THAT is the language I chose when I
installed Proof Languages.

What gives????

Proofing Tools != MUI; they are two separate features....

That CD has no proofing tools on it.

Proofing tools come with Office, not Windows.

This is a separate CD and does have many languages on it.

Languages for WINDOWS.
That's not the same as proofing languages in Office.

Mine is for MSOffice and it did work until I switched from MSOffice 2000 to
MSOffice 2003.

So you want to use the MS Office 2000 Proofing Tools with Office 2003?
That won't work.

WHERE does it show "all kind of languages"?

What happens if you press F7 after formatting the text as German?

Now I cannot tell you anything, because I re-installed MSOffice Pro 2003 and
then the WindowsXP Multinational User Interface Pack. BUT - whereas before I
at least could see the different languages, when I typed something in
Outlook and went to Spelling, now I only see English.

I see no German, which I checked to be installed with English when I put in
the CD for Multinational etc.

Now I am totally confused.

OK... I'm not totally conversant with Outlook, but are you using Word as the
email editor, or not? That will make a different with what spelling
tools/languages are available.

Also, please check in Windows Control Panel/Regional and Language
Options/Languages/Details: which is set as your default language? Are any other
languages listed?

The, go to START/PRograms, look for the entry for Microsoft Office, then for
the Tools, and under that the Language Settings. Which languages are in the
enabled list? If some of the languages you want to use aren't in that list, add
them to the list.

Cindy:

Thanks for response.

1. I do use MSWord as e-mail editor.
2. Under Advanced in the Control Panel I have checkmarks in the following:
1000 Mac Roman (greyed out though), 1141 IBM EBCDIC Germany 20273+
Euro,1250 ANSI Central Europe (greyed out),same for 1251,1252 through
1258,then 1361(all greyed out),same for 20262, the 20273 IBM EBCDIC
Germany(not greyed out),28591 (greyed out), 37 IBM EBCDIC US/Canada (not
greyed out), 437 (greyed out), 500 IBMEBCDIC International (not greyed out),
50220 through 52936 (greyed out), 57002 through65001 (all greyed out)
3. I went there and selected German. It installed them but when I go to
Outlook and type this:

"Hierr habben wirr gernn ein feines Weihnachtsfest"

And then select under Tools Languages and then German, it first says it
cannot find the German but then says the Spellcheck is ok and finished (not
suggesting any corrections)

Can you see why things are driving a man to drink?

Regards

Karl

Hi Ritter197,

> 2. Under Advanced in the Control Panel

that's not where I meant. I meant in the Settings tab. Which languages are
under "Installed Services"?

I assume you're referring to the Microsoft Office Language Tools, here. So
German was NOT in the list of enabled languages when you entered here? But
then you added it to the list?

Now try opening Word directly. Let's forget Outlook for the moment, as I'm not
familiar with using Word as the email editor.

You have a new document in front of you. Go to Tools/Language/Set Language.
Which language is selected?

If it's not German (and it won't be if that's not set as your default language
for windows), close the dialog box. Type some text and select it. Go back to
the dialog box and choose German as the language.

Close the dialog box and press F7 to force a spell check. What happens?

Cindy:

Here is what I am doing with your suggestions:

1. I open MSWord

2. I typpe some German with purposely mispelled words

3. I go to Tool and the Language.

4. I see German (Austria) , German (Germany) and select the latter

5. I highlight the text and go back to Tools and select Spelling.

6. I see oodles of French, Spanish but NO German.

Is that what you wanted you tried?

Thanks for help.

One major difference:

2a. I select all the text (Ctrl+A) before going to step 3.

As to steps 5 & 6: I assume you're referring to the dropdown list
"Dictionary language"? If you're not seeing German in that list,
then the German proofing tools haven't been installed.

Are you able to switch the Office interface (menus, help, messages)
to German? This would also be done using the Microsoft Office
Tools/Microsoft Office Language Settings (NOT in Word! In Windows)

I forgot to mention, that when I write in Outlook and then go to Tools and
Spelling, I see English, a lot of French, then Spanish, not one for German.
