recovering files from disks that need to be formatted

i have files on a disk that my computer says needs to be
formatted. how can i extract some of the files before
formatting the disk?

Hi Donna,

This is an operating system message, nothing to do with Word.  You will need
to find a disk drive on a computer that can read the disks.  I realise that
it is easier said than done.  Maybe some disk recovery software might be
able to extract the files for you.
