Table of Contents & Headers/Footers - Word XP

I have been having problems trying to insert footers that
are numbered as A-1, A-2, A-3, etc.  Then the next
section we would number as F-1, F-2, F-3, etc.  If I can
get the numbering to work in the footnotes, I would then
want these numbers to appear in the table of contents.  
I've tried a couple of ways including using the Chapter
numbering but I have been unsuccessful.  Any
suggestions/ideas would be appreciated.  Thanks.
