I type numerous documents that contain somewhat of an
outline style; i.e. 1., A., 1), a), bullets, etc.  If
it's pretty basic, I go ahead and list all the numbers,
then go back and format the A, B, etc.  But, when it gets
really intricate, I have to keep going back and
formatting each one so everything will line up.
Sometimes the bullets never line up the text.  I usually
go back and highlight everything and move it where it
should be.  It takes me hours to finalize a document that
should take 30 minutes.  Also, when I try to move one of
these documents into another document, everything gets
jacked around so much that I can't tell what is what.  I
tried inserting page breaks after each page, but that
didn't help.  I'll have three A's in a row, then it will
go to iii and then a D moved to the middle of the page.
I would still be using Word Perfect, but Microsoft seems
to be the universal craze - craze being the operative
word.  It has to be my ignorance because no one would
choose to be this frustrated.  I would also like to have
the "Reveal Codes" option.  Please help so I can have a
normal work life again.

Hi Jag,

Which version of Word are you using? Are you familiar with
using styles, in general?

You need to set up your numbering following the instructions at
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html. Note that
setting "Right" for the "Number position" will cause your numbers to align
on the period or other punctuation. As for Reveal Codes, see
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/General/RevealCodes.htm
