We are having problems when we attach our newly created
Word template to existing Word documents. Using
the "Templates and Add-ins" menu specifying the new
template with "Automatically update document styles"
checked.  Some of the styles are not updated to match the
styles in the template even when named identically (e.g.,
Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3).  Copying the styles over
from the styles organizer dialog does not resolve the
problem either.  Neither does closing and reopening the
document.  Anyone know why this is happening?

Note that the template was created in Word 2002.  The
documents were orignally crated in Word 95 and have been
edited extensively in interim versions of word.

Hi Erin

Are the Heading styles numbered? There are known problems with getting
numbered styles to update from template or copy in from the Organizer.

Firstly, make sure that the numbering is set up correctly, with tabs and
indents set from numbering, not the Paragraph properties, as explained in
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html

This may be enough to make Update Styles work - if not, try copying using
the Organizer 3 times.

If that doesn't work, have a look at
