When I use a certain style and then add formatting or
change something to the paragraph style, another style is
added to "Styles and Formatting."  This is very confusing
and would like to know if there is a way I can turn that
feature off.  Thanks.  Lisa

Word is not really creating a new style, but keeping track of your
formatting, an option you can uncheck in Tools | Options, Edit tab.  More
