Hello to all you helpful people!
I am using Word 2003. When I move headers that are
automatically numbered (i.e. i have used bullet and
numbering for headers), the numbers automatically update,
which is very helpful. However, when I move a captioned
object that is numbered, to re-number it so that they all
retain sequence, I have to highlight the whole document,
right click and select 'update field'. Is there any way
of getting word to automatically update captioned fields
once they have been moved?
Thanks!
Steve

What you can do is set Word to update fields before
printing documents:

1. Select Tools>Options. ¨

2. Click the Print tab.

3. Make sure "Update fields" is ticked.

4. Click OK.

Hi
yes, I saw this option, but didn't think it would update
prior to printing.
Thanks for your help!

It won't update prior to printing, but setting this option
ensures that, when you do print your document, you get the
correct (updated) field results.

It will also (usually) update when you switch to Print Preview.
