I am using a master document with a table of contents.
Main subjects in each subdocument are set to heading 3.
When I open the master document, there are new
styles "Heading 3,Heading 3 Char 1, Heading 3 Char Char
Char..." It seems that each time I open the master
document, it adds another comma and garbage to Heading 3.
I have deleted the extra heading 3 line from the available
styles in the master document and every subdocument,
called each back up separately and no problem. But when I
call up the master document and expander the subdocuments,
the extra garbage gets added to heading 3.
How can I make this quit. Right now I have moved down to
heading 4, which works fine (in fact headings 1, 2, 4, 5,
and 6 work fine), but that is not the correct solution.
Thank you,
Hugh

The master document function in Word is broken and causes document
corruption - http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/WhyMasterDocsCorrupt.htm
but I believe the char char issue was resolved by an Office update (SP1?)
