hi-
i have a long document that i keep changing and adding
footnotes to.  for example, i have one footnote that
says "see footnote number 35" but later that will be a
different footnote number.
is it possible to make this change automatically?
thanks-
marcela

Yes. Use Insert | Cross-reference (Insert | Reference | Cross-reference in
Word 2002 and above) to Footnote: Footnote number. This will then update as
your footnote numbering changes.

Hi -
I appreciate your response and I was aboe to insert the
cross-reference.  but after i tested it by changing some
footnotes around, it didn't change the number. i pressed
F9 and tried to print and save but it isn't working.  do
you have any idea why that might be?

thanks again.

Can't say. It always works for me. But then I don't "change footnotes
around"; I either add or delete in the normal course of creating a document.
