Yes. Use Insert | Cross-reference (Insert | Reference | Cross-reference in
Word 2002 and above) to Footnote: Footnote number. This will then update as
your footnote numbering changes.

Hi -
I appreciate your response and I was aboe to insert the
cross-reference. but after i tested it by changing some
footnotes around, it didn't change the number. i pressed
F9 and tried to print and save but it isn't working. do
you have any idea why that might be?

Can't say. It always works for me. But then I don't "change footnotes
around"; I either add or delete in the normal course of creating a document.
