When I select a paragraph and attempt to move it across
the page using the tab key it now deletes the entire text
instead of moving it as it had previously done.  Please
could anyone advise on how to correct this.

On the Edit tab of the Tools>Options dialog box, make sure that
"Typing replaces selection" is not ticked.

Versions up to Word 2000: Tools | Options | Edit: check the box for "Tabs
and backspace set left indent."

Word 2002 and above: Tools | AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat As You Type:
check the box for "Set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces."
