I am trying to number my captions as Figure 1.1, Figure
1.2, Figure 2.1, etc.

How do i change the style of the caption?  Even if i could
turn off the autonumbering, that would help.  But I've had
no luck with anything I've tried.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

You can modify the Caption style (see
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/styles/ModifyAStyle.html), but if you don't
need autonumbering, then there's not much point in using the Insert |
Caption feature. You can define and apply your own custom style or modify
the Caption style and apply it to your own freestyle caption.
