Find and replace does not turn off

Hi.  How do I 'turn off' find and replace in Word 2000?  
The specific issue is that when I use find and replace,
close it, and then want to move page up/down (through ctrl-
page-down or ctrl-pageup, the program looks for the
word/phrase again.  I can't seem to close it out, even if
I close the file and reopen it.

Click on the Select Browse Object button between the browse arrows (the
double arrows at the bottom of the vertical scroll bar) and select Browse by
Page.
