I' creating a catalog to be published in MS Reader format.
The information comes from an MS Access report. The input
is therefore RTF. How can I update this catalog with new
information without tagging, with styles, everytime it's
updated? Would using Excel as a transition step help? With
RTF every paragraph is tagged as normal.

Use a Catalog (or in Word 2002/2003, Directory) Type mailmerge main document
with Access as the data source

I would not do that.  You were smart enough to know where to go to find the
answer.
