Styles not appearing in list

Hi all,

We are using Word 2002 (XP). When the Styles and Formatting task pane is
visible, there are several styles - including a couple custom ones - we use
that don't appear - even when selecting to show All Styles, or Styles in Use
(they are in the open document). In fact, when the cursor is in the text of
the style, the style name appears in the drop-down box on the formatting
toolbar, but when the drop down is clicked, the style name is NOT in the
list!

Anyone have any ideas as to why selecting "All styles" doesn't reveal them
all?

The only way I have found to make the style appear in the list is to select
Custom and go through the list to select them to make them appear. I have
since updated the template to make them visible that way, but unfortunately,
they are now only visible for documents created from that point forward and
not any that were created before I forced the styles to be visible.

Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated and have a great day!

Steve

Microsoft has a rather strange concept of "All styles" is all I can say. You
can force the Styles dropdown to display *all* styles by pressing Shift
while clicking on the arrow. As you have figured out, the only way to get
the Styles and Formatting task pane to show them is to add them using
Custom.

How about some way to get that dropdown list to drop down ALL THE WAY?
What a pain to have to click on the scrollbar to see more, when
there's plenty of room for the list to drop down further and show more
styles.

Is there some kind of VBA tweak that would do this?

Not that I know of, but if you know the name of the style you're looking
for, you can start typing it in the Style box, and the list will cycle
closer and closer to the style you want. You can either select it when you
see it or continue typing letters until the correct style is in the Style
box, then press Enter.

Excellent!  Thanks.

Thanks Suzanne.

Your opinion of MS equals mine.
