I want to auto number a column in a table in ascending
order rather than descending order.  Can anyone help!

Leigh,

One way would be to put the largest number in the column
first row and then use a Formula field in the subsequent
fields.

The following example might work for you:

1000 in column first row
Enter the field {=(MIN(Above)-1)} in the second row and
paste to all 998 subsequent rows.
CTRL+a to select all and F9 to update fields.
