When selecting a paragraph to apply formatting to (bold,
italic, underline, indent, bullets, etc) it changes the
whole document to the selected format instead of just the
selected paragraph. I can hit cntl-z to undo and then
only the selected item will be formatted. How can I get
word to change only the selected paragraph. It works
correct if the whole paragraph is not selected.

The paragraph style (usually Normal style) has been set to automatically
update.

sentence, or word to change and hit the B, U, or I to
change it. This will not change was is not highlighted.
Did you place your cursor on the left margin where it
would point right instead of left? If so this highlights
more than just a section.
