Hi Martin
Four questions:
1. What version of Word?
2. What steps are you taking to insert the cross-reference? (exact steps, please!)
3. What do you then expect to see?
4. What do you see?

Many thanks for the quick reply, great site you have
Shauna.
Using Word 2000 spk 3 but I have cured the problem.
Here is what I did to cure the problem:
Insert cross-reference, of the 'heading' reference type.
On the Insert reference to: pull down menu I
select 'Heading number (no context)' this gives me the
desired cross-reference. Which looks like this; APPENDIX 1.
If I select either of the other 2 'Heading Number'
options i.e. 'Heading Number' or 'Heading Number (full
context)',which I was selecting before, I get the cross
reference with the last heading number used in heading
style 1 included. For example suppose in the main section
the last numbered heading 1 style (outline numbered)was '7
Conclusions' in the cross reference to the appendix I
would get this; 7APPENDIX 1
All sorted now, I hope this doesn't mean that all my
numbering could go bad at sometime soon.
Many thanks
Martin
PS I don't suppose you know away of stopping Endnote
creating hyper-links when it creates the bibliography in
the word document. Probably an Endnote solution required
I expect.

Hi Shauna,
Thanks for the quick reply yesterday, I did post a long
detailed reply but it didn't seem to get to the forum.
Basically I have cured the problem by using 'Heading
Number (no context)' instead of using either of the other
2 'heading number options'
Many thanks again.
