I know that to change headers from one section to another as for example
chapters of a book, I have to break the link between section headers.
But my reason for breaking the document into sections is because one part is
landscape and one part potrait mode. When the document switches to
landscape mode I want to move the page numbering from the old right-hand tab
stop to a new right-hand tab stop.
But what is happening is that not only am I moving the tab stop, but the
page numbering is beginning over again at page 1 which is not what I
intended.
What am I doing wrong?

Intention is not enough, you gotta "tell" Word that this is what you
want with the page numbering: Insert | Page Number | Format: Continue
from ... | OK | *Close*
