I am formatting academic papers to convert to PDF. I want
to apply custom heading styles, but everytime I try to
use my defined styles they revert or chage to something
else, even though on the reveal formatting windows they
indicate the style correctly. I am finding styles very
unstable, but require the heirarchical structure to
generate bookmarks and tables of contents. Can any one
help or recommend a book on word styles? Thanks. Paula

Check out Word MVP Shauna Kelly's web page
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/, especially the articles in the
"Styles" section and in the "Numbering, Bullets, Headings, Outlines"
section.
