Turning off "Match font with keyboard" preference doesn't work

I often use the AppleStd Russian keyboard in Word, and for some reason,
whenever I have that keyboard selected, the font automatically switches to
ARSKurier. I have the box that automatically matches the font with the
keyboard UNCHECKED in the Word Preferences, as well as in Mac's
International System Preferences, so there should not be any
synchronization. Is there any way I can make this stop?!?

You need to post on a Mac-specific group with questions like this (crashing,
international characters, etc).  Be sure to mention the version you are
using.
