Formatting problems

I have problems with formatting my Word 2002 on XP.
Whenever I want to (eg) bold something, if I highlight
that and hit bold, the whole document goes bold. Then if
I undo, only the original selection stays bold. The same
happens with justification and all other formatting
maneuvers. Occasionally, I lose the whole formatting of
the whole document.

As you can imagine it's very frustrating. Anyone have any
ideas/tips? I have tried to adjust the options but it
hasn't helped.

Thanks
Patrick

Turn off "automatically update" in your style definitions, starting with
the Normal style.  See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/WholeDocumentReformatted.htm for
more info.
