Styles & Formatting Task Pane Not Working?

I've created a macro that creates an outline (linked to
the built-in nine heading styles) and also adds some
other custom styles into the document.  After I run the
macro and use any of the heading styles, my styles all
appear in the Styles & Formatting Task Pane, but the
option to "Select All" paragraphs containing the styles
is grayed out (and says "Not Currently Used").

I've tried removing the paragraph attached to that style
and adding it back into the document--but no matter what
I do, the Styles and Formatting Task Pane appears to be
unable to 'find' the style in the document!  Also, the
Task Pane can't seem to 'find' any of my other styles in
the document either (these other styles have user-defined
names that are not the same as any built-in style names).

Any thoughts?  Thanks!

You'd never guess, but you need to check 'Keep Track of Formatting' in Tools
> Options > Edit for that feature to work.

... and even then, it only works for styles used in the main document, not
in any other story range (comments, foot-/endnotes, headers, footers, text
boxes).

This limitation just came up in the German groups, and I hadn't been aware
of it.
