Thank you all for your suggestions.  Indeed purchasing
this would be very expensive.  Is it safe to pull one
from the internet?

Ghostscript is free for personal use and can be used to create PDF files. Go
to www.ghostscript.com

Depends what you need the PDF to do. If the output is for commercial
printing you should check with the print shop. Some of the Acrobat clones do
not produce acceptable output for commercial purposes.

It's as supported, but it's free and it works good.
