I have a symbol along with words that is being referenced
for the headers, however the symbol does not show,
only ")" shows.

With _symbol_ you mean a character from the Symbol font? I'm afraid
those don't travel reliably through STYLEREF. Try finding a symbol in
one of the larger Unicode-Fonts (i.e., Lucida Sans Unicode, Arial
Unicode), those should work.
