In the last exciting episode on Sat, 7 May 2005 22:02:14 -0500,
|Switch to Normal view and disable background repagination on the General tab
|of Tools | Options. It will be reenabled whenever you switch back to Print
|Layout view, however.

Glad I could help. FWIW, if you're working on a complex document with
images, turning on "Picture placeholders" (in Normal view) will make Word
even more efficient.
