I have a 38 page document that looks fine in Print Layout
view, but Print Preview is changing this to 40 pages, and
it will also print out 40. How can this be ?  I thought
Print Layout view is a WYSIWYG.  File was sent to me by a
client to troubleshoot. Tried setting different printers,
and the same thing happens, so I dont think it's a driver
issue. Can anyone explain this ?  Using both Word 2000 and
2002.

Lynn,

If you've looked at updating and changing printer drivers
without sucess, then you may be looking at a corrupted
document.

Try saving the document as an RTF and re-opening and
printing. If that works, then you've succeeded in clearing
it up. If not, you may find that copying and pasting page
by page into a new document and printing each page to be a
last resort option.

Thanks. I'm thinking this may be corrupt. In Word 2002,
print layout shows 38 pages, and print preview shows 40.
In Word 2000, however, I get about 10 errors telling me
that the file is not accessible, folder has been removed,
then it finally opens, with the opposite problem. Print
layout now shows 40 pages, but print preview shows 38.
There are objects that were copied in from Excel, and
clicking on them is generating even more errors.

I will try saving this as an RTF to see if that will clear
up the problem.

Thanks

Print Layout view is *not* entirely WYSIWYG; you should rely on Print
Preview for that. Print Layout view will not show the correct pagination if
you have fields or Hidden text displayed, which is often the case if you
have inserted XE or TC fields or if you have linked objects that might be
displayed as field codes rather than field results. If you suspect the
document is corrupt, see
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm for some cleaning
techniques.

In addition to other comments in this thread, if the document was prepared
elsewhere it is almost certainly reformatting to *your* printer driver - see
