If you generate an automatic TOC using Insert | Reference | Index and Tables
| Table of Contents, this is the default. If you are creating a TOC
manually, apply a period leader to your right tab stop; see

It's a tab with a dot leader.
But Word will do it automatically if you auto-generate the TOC, see here on
that;

I am still having a problem. When I highlight the text I want and then
try to insert a TOC I get this error message....Error! No table of
contents entries found. Any help?

You should not be selecting any text when you insert a TOC. Does your text
include TC fields or paragraphs formatted with a built-in heading style or
any style with a TOC outline level? See
http://www.ShaunaKelly.com/word/toc/CreateATOC.html
