MS Office Forum / Word / Long Documents / March 2006Auto Correct -- wants to double space!
I've started using AutoCorrect to insert some text -- I want the text to be formatted. It consists of a pleading caption. It should be single-spaced. It goes in with double-spacing. Like -- I make a style called "Caption" and set it to be single-spaced. Then I set up my caption within that style. Then I put it into autocorrect. But then -- all my pleadings will need to have a line someplace that is set to the "caption" style. Which means I need a different pleading template for the first page and for the second page? No, you are not understanding, but probably I am not being clear. My pleading templates have a lot of styles, many of which are not used in most pleadings. I do my formatting using styles. I seldom use normal style to format anything. It is sort of there in the background and I mostly leave it alone. Suzanne is correct that a pleading caption would more often be an AutoText entry. I have mine as tables, it allows precise positioning both vertically and horizontally. A table can be saved as an AutoText entry and can contain its own styles. I would urge you to spend some time learning about styles before you spend much time preparing templates. I do have a caption saved as autotext, but I have to go to the menu, drop down, choose, expand, then select the appropriate auto text entry. Even then, it inserts as double-space, not as single-space. The one thng that does work is dragging the caption to the desktop, which creates a Document Scrap. I caN then drag the document scrap into any document and the spacing is retained. There must be an easier way of doing AutoText, too. Believe me, it is more important to you. Save a caption as AutoText and give it a meaningful name. I would suggest "pl_cap" since that is something not likely to be typed except when you want this. If you have tooltips enabled, Word will tell you that you are typing this. If this happens, press Enter to accept the entire entry. Otherwise, once you've typed the name, press the F3 key and it will insert the caption. If you have your caption appropriately saved using styles, it will insert for you as you wish. I didn't know about F3. I think I have tooltips enabled -- they pop up when for AutoCorrect. But I don't see them for AutoText. I just looked around, and can't find the setting to enable tool tips in Word 2000.
